XFM for FileMaker
Xpress for FileMaker combines a high performing FileMaker
10 Server with the best turn-key backup solution available.
With XFM, FileMaker backups that previously completed in
minutes
now complete in
seconds.
The XFM appliance has three key components: server,
disk subsystem, and backup software.
- Server.
The XFM comes standard with a dual-core Intel Xeon
CPU (upgradeable to 8 cores) and four GBs of RAM, to support
the highest possible FileMaker performance.
- Disk Subsystem.
The XFM uses one of the world's fastest
disk subystems, equivalent to a 1.8 million RPM disk
drive. Originally designed for real-time processing,
financial services, large government labs, and the
world's fastest supercomputer applications, Econnectix
has adapted this technology to accelerate FileMaker backups.
The XFM will back up any size database in
about 1 second
Unlike traditional storage, the XFM disk subsystem
provides predictable, uniform performance, regardless of
I/O size, reads, writes, seeks, or constant
or intermittant useage patterns. The XFM disk subsystem
will never "hiccup" like traditional storage systems,
temporarily "pausing" and then "catching-up", as I/O
moves in and out of disk cache.
-
Backup Software.
At its heart, the XFM provides a professional, turn-key
backup system. Using the XFM, customers do nothing
to receive professionally backed up FileMaker
databases, every 15 minutes for 2 hours, every hour for a
day, and every day for a week. Alternatively, customers may
create a custom retention schedule.
What would you do differently if you could backup in a few seconds?
With an XFM, a few seconds ensures the safety
and recoverability of your FileMaker data.
Key feaures of the XFM include:
- 1.8 Million RPM Performance.
The world's fastest SCSI drives operate
at 15,000 RPMs, 100 MB/sec throughput, and millisecond
response time. XFM backs up at the equivalent of
1.8 million RPMs and microsecond response time.
- Backup Speed.
The XFM will backup any size database in
about 1 second. The XFM will allow you to grow
database size without ever worrying about backup
performance again.
- Turn-Key Installation.
Install the XFM onto your network, plug-in the
accompanying UPS, copy your database files into
the FileMaker directory, and that's it.
- Professional Backups.
No longer will you need to worry
about data integrity, how or when to make backups,
whether they're done consistently, when
to remove them, or how to restore them. XFM fully
automates all backup procedures by default. You
don't even have to turn-on backups. Of course,
you can customize XFM extensively should you wish.
- Retention Schedule.
By default the XFM backs up your data
every 15 minutes for 2 hours, every hour for a day,
every day for a week, maintaining a rotational schedule
of 39 full copies of your data during the normal course
of a week.
If you prefer, you can change the defaults to create
a custom retention schedule. Of course, you can protect
any specific backup that you wish, eliminating it from
automatic rotational removal.
- Standard .ZIP Files.
The XFM stores backups in
standard .ZIP format to conserve space and facilitate
manipulation of entire database sets in a single file.
You can copy, unzip, and manipulate an XFM backup just
like any other .ZIP file.
- Restores.
Restoring a backup is a snap. Stop FileMaker Server,
unzip selected backup into the FileMaker directory, and
restart FileMaker Server. If you don't
like that backup, pick a previous backup and repeat.
During 1 week's default schedule, you'll have 39 full
backups to select from.
- Data Integrity.
No longer will you need to worry about data integrity.
Even before backups, the XFM automatically synchronizes
memory data to a RAID-10 disk array. If there is a
problem with a disk in the RAID-10 array, just replace the
failed disk and the XFM automatically resynchronizes
the data. The management console will identify which
disk failed, and point you to what needs to be replaced.
It's easy. Meanwhile, the default retention schedule
will have 39 complete backups. Combined with XFM's
remote, off-site, storage capability, it becomes very,
very difficult
to lose data. Just remember--these features
are fully automated and completely turn-key.
- Fast FileMaker Server.
Each XFM comes "standard" with a dual-core
Intel Xeon CPU (upgradeable to 8 cores), to
maximize FileMaker performance.
- Automated Remote Backups.
You might wish to save more
than 1 week's data, or save a snapshot of data once a
month for historical purposes, or mirror a portion of
your backups off-site for disaster recovery. With XFM
remote backups are a snap. Please contact your
reseller for details.
- Automated Remote Health Monitoring.
The XFM self-heals for most problems that can occur,
eliminating problems before they ever are noticed. Additionally,
XFM constantly monitors storage health, and can report status
via SNMP, Syslog, or HTTP down to the second.
Please contact your reseller for details.
- Uninteruptible Power Supply (UPS).
The XFM comes standard with a UPS to protect against
downtime. You'll never be bothered
by another utility company power spike. If a
power outage does occur, the XFM will stay up as long
as possible, gracefully shutting-down only if or when
necessary to protect the data. When you bring the
XFM back online after an outage, your data will
be right where it should be, safe and secure.
